Jewels

by Melissa Ko (Melanie's mom)

Seeds are planted in the ground

Silently transforming wherever they're found

Shoots grow upwards in their own special place

Planted in the ground for their world grace

Red and yellow, black and white

Bloom in beauty, side by side

Sweet and delicate each blossom is

Vivid and strong in fields, like seas

Millions upon millions these flowers are

Spreading their fragrance near and far

Each standing with another, none forlorn

All long remembered after they're gone

Like a flower is each precious child

Who is only here for a little while

Unique, irreplaceable everyone is

From the most prominent to the least

The hands that tend the seeds must indeed

Tend lovingly and tirelessly for indeed...

Each seed has potential

To grace the world

For every individual

Himself or herself is a jewel
